Descanso Railroad

The Descanso train is a beloved icon—a highlight for visitors of all ages who delight in the charm of a scenic ride through the Gardens. Winding through the Oak Forest, over a rustic bridge, and past the Rose Garden, the train offers an enchanting journey that has become a treasured tradition.

To preserve this cherished experience, the Descanso Railroad opened in 2024.  The new area features enchanting model trains winding through intricate landscapes and seasonally changing displays crafted from natural materials, along with a brand-new train station, where guests can hop aboard an electric train and journey through the gardens.

The new Descanso Railroad brings joy, sparks imagination, and helps share this treasured experience.

FAQs

Who designed Descanso Railroad?

The model trains area was created by Applied Imagination — a company that designs iconic botanical models and sculptures paired with beloved G-scale model trains. These small-scale botanical artworks are created in a workshop located in Kentucky. Applied Imagination has created countless award-winning garden railway displays across the country. The area’s theme will change every six months.
