Descanso celebrates the 50th anniversary of its Japanese Garden with this family-friendly festival. New this year: Experience the ancient music and dance performed in the Imperial Court of Japan! Activities free to members except where noted. Click here to see Sunday’s schedule.

Ikebana Display | 9am – 5pm

Japanese Garden Exhibition | 10am – 4pm
Sharing Culture | Creating Community opens to the public in the Sturt Haaga Gallery. Learn more about the history of the Japanese Garden Garden and the people who created it.

Take a curator-led walk through our new gallery exhibit.

Taiko Drummers | 11am & 1pm
Kishin Daiko drummers perform heart-pounding feats of percussion.

Japanese Court Music & Dance | 3pm
Kinnara Gagaku performs gagaku and bugaku, an ancient music and dance performed in the Imperial Court of Japan, in religious institutions, and for community activities in Japan and within the Japanese American community. Kinnara Gagaku was formed in 1969 by Buddhist priests of the Senshin Buddhist Temple in LA and laymen in Southern California, in an effort to reestablish the practice and performance of traditional Japanese performing arts in the United States.
