Discover how scientists explore the world around us– from whats in your backyard to what’s happening in outer space. Learn about space exploration from JPL and Carnegie Observatories, talk to experts from San Fernando Valley Audubon Society, and find out more about the pollinators that help make our garden bloom. Grab dinner and a drink, enjoy the sunset, and wander the gardens as the Flashdance DJs spin all-vinyl sets of tunes.

Rose Garden

JPL Display | 5:30–8:30pm
Talk to scientists from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and learn about space exploration.

Planetarium Shows *limited space available | 5:40, 6:10, 6:40, 7:10, 7:40 & 8:10pm
Experience Carnegie Observatories‘ inflatable planetarium. Timed tickets available at the Rose Garden Pavilion beginning at 5:30. Participants must be able to sit on the ground for 20 minutes. Space extremely limited and is first-come, first-served.

Astronomy Talks | 6:30, 7 & 7:30pm
Learn about gravitational wave astronomy with Carnegie Observatories scientist, Dr. Philip Cowperthwaite.

Patina Concession Stand | 5:30–8pm
Food and drinks available for purchase.

Bee Discovery Display | 5:30–8:30pm
Learn about the relationship between flowers and bees at this interactive display created by Descanso’s Native Garden Horticulturist, Layla Valenzuela.

Microscopes and Magnifiers Station | 5:30–8:30pm
Try out these scientific tools to get a closer look at nature.

Oak Grove

The Weaving Project | 5:30–7:30pm
Explore connections between art and our natural world. Together with artist Ben Allanoff, weave a community sculpture using sticks and natural materials. Stop by after 7:30 to view the finished project.

Flash Dance DJs | 5:30–8:15pm
The Flash Dance DJs spin an all vinyl set under the oaks.

San Fernando Valley Audubon Society | 5:30–7:30pm
Chat with experts from the Audubon Society and learn all about the birds that call Southern California home.
