5:30 & 6:30pm: SAKURA Cellos
A unique and versatile cello ensemble, hailed as “brilliant” and “superb” by Mark Swed in the LA Times, SAKURA Cellos is built on the artistry and virtuosity of its artists. Drawing from the rich heritage of a repertoire that spans eight centuries, inventive programs are constructed around conceptual threads, with a commitment to opening new vistas of beauty and expression by showcasing the great warmth and scope of cellos.
5:45 & 6:45pm: Paul Livingstone Ensemble: AROHI
The music of Arohi Ensemble weaves the classical ragas and intricate rhythmic architectures of South Asia with the counterpoint of Western chamber music. Arohi brings a unique blend of sitar, cello, tabla and drums together. Paul Livingstone and Peter Jacobson featured on multiple Grammy-winning records are joined along with dynamic percussionists Neelamjit Dhillon on tabla and Dave Lewis on drums.
6 & 7pm: Yuval Ron Music
In a vivid program, the Yuval Ron Music – with guest flamenco artist Manuel Gutierrez and Andres Vadin – explores the Jewish and Gypsy traditions of Andalusia, Spain. The sublime and stirring guest gypsy-flamenco artists evoke Andalusia in the Middle Ages and explore a vision for the 21st century.
