A doctorate in cello performance from the USC and having performed with Pacific Symphony, USC Thornton Symphony, LA Phil, and LA Chamber Orchestra, Fang Fang’s cello playing is a favorite at Descanso.

MusiKaravan bring the energy of a concert hall into the intimacy of a special musical bonding experience. Violinists Etienne Gara and YuEun Kim along with Ryan Baird on double bass have a passion for sharing stories through music and an ability to create magical and intimate musical moments with all audiences. These artists are founding members of DELIRIUM MUSICUM a self-conducted chamber orchestra.

Hermanos Herrera is a family group consisting of five brothers and a sister. The group plays various styles of traditional Mexican music including Son Huasteco, Jarocho, and musica Norteña. They perform with an aggressive and energetic style that is both passionate and exhilarating. Capturing various traditional musical styles with remarkable authenticity, Hermanos Herrera are true representatives of Mexico’s rich musical landscape.

Get hands-on gardening experience by mulching in the garden and help care for Descanso at this volunteer opportunity. Instruction will be provided.

All experience levels are welcome.

Ages 16 or older.

Must be able to lift, bend and stand for long periods of time. Moderate to heavy lifting involved.

Bring gardening gloves and water.

Remember to wear comfortable clothing and closed toed shoes.

Learn about Descanso’s collection of cycads in the Ancient Forest during their most active time of year. Cycads were one of the first seed bearing plants and predate all the flowering plants that dominate our world today.
On Saturday, July 22, students will learn how these ancient plants evolved through history and gain an appreciation for the diversity we see today.
Students are encouraged to bring pens and sketching paper. This class includes use of microscopes and other botany lab-style materials. Class takes place indoors and outdoors.
