SILENCE: Light @ Descanso Gardens

Discover SILENCE, a new concert series presenting music and performance unconstrained by genre, at specific sites within Descanso’s “living collection” of horticulture. On Sept. 21, we explore the theme Light with artist Suzanne Ciani. Mia Barcia-Colombo, Yuri Inoo, Cristina Montes Mateo, Vicki Ray, and Diana Wade perform Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s In the Light of Air.

Created by artistic directors Christopher Rountree, the conductor/composer who founded Wild Up, and Anna Bulbrook, the indie-rock musician and founder of GirlschoolSILENCE presents artists at the intersection of experimental popular music and classical new music. SILENCE explores three themes – Ritual (Sept. 7)Light (Sept. 21), and Listening (Sept. 28) – bringing unbounded sounds to the special outdoor space at Descanso Gardens.

SILENCE: Listening @ Descanso Gardens

Harris performs her pieces alongside the participatory deep listening pieces of Pauline Oliveros; and Gloria Cheng performs selected John Cage’s Sonatas and Interludes for prepared piano.

Enchanted Preview Party {SOLD OUT}

The stars will shine, the lanterns will glow and you will be the first to experience Enchanted Forest of Light at the 2019–20 Preview Party on Saturday, November 16. The event will give visitors a chance to experience Enchanted before it opens on November 17.

Tickets are $150 per person and include food and drinks, plus additional entertainment.

Experience the wonder of Enchanted Forest of Light from November 17 to January 5. Advance tickets required.

New this year is contemporary sculptor Tom Fruin’s magical “stained glass” creation which will grace Descanso’s Mulberry Pond. Popular favorites returning include the Ancient Forest, Flower Power, and “Celestial Shadows” by HYBYCOZO.

Descanso Gardens members receive a discount on tickets and access to member-only nights from December 20–23 and 26–28.
