End of Summer Festival @ Descanso Gardens

The gardens stay open extra late for this end of summer celebration. Grab a cold drink and relax to the tunes of the The Flashdance DJswander through the gardens to the sounds of live music. Enjoy the sunset, then end the night with some stargazing in the Oak Woodland. Bring your own flashlight! Advance tickets required, get yours here:

Wet & Wonderful: Celebrating our Precious Water @ Descanso Gardens

This daylong symposium will explore ways to create beautiful gardens and to safeguard our precious (and limited!) water supply.

Get inspired at this day of fun and educational programming for the whole family. Enjoy a musical theatrical-style performance of “H20, Where Did You Go?”, pick up a rain barrel (advance purchase recommended – http://www.rainbarrelsintl.com) and some mulch, and get tips from experts on how to make your garden beautifully climate appropriate. Produced in partnership with local water agencies. Activities included with admission except where noted.

Enjoy a Native Plant Garden Walk and learn about plants you can use in your own yard to attract pollinators, birds, and other wildlife.

10:30 – 11:15am | “H20, Where Did You Go?”, Shows that Teach
Shows That Teach, a Los Angeles based company that specializes in quality school assembly programs, brings a musical theatrical-style performance which addresses the value of water, the water cycle, how to conserve water, and much more. This program is especially suited for children in K-6 grade.

10:30 – 11:00am | Cindy Berglund, Rain Barrels International
In this Rain Barrel 101 class, learn rain barrel basics, including the benefits of using a rain barrel, how to install a rain barrel, and how to apply for rebates.

11am – noon | Charley Wilson, Southern California Water Committee
Charley Wilson of the Southern California Water Committee will lead a discussion on water supplies with a focus on California WaterFix. The WaterFix is a $15 billion plan proposed by Governor Brown and the CA Department of Water Resources to build two tunnels to carry fresh water under the Sacramento-San Joaquin Bay Delta.

1pm | Cassy Aoyagi, FormLA Landscaping
Join Cassy Aoyagi, Founder of FormLA Landscaping and President of the Theodore Payne Foundation, for a talk about creating lush and low water gardens, and a look at the Center Circle garden display she created for Descanso Gardens.

7:30am – noon | Mulch Giveaway
Take home some high-quality mulch and get your mulching questions answered by Descanso horticulture staff. Bring your own containers to tote mulch home (maximum of three containers). Supplies are limited to residents of La Cañada Flintridge and all Descanso members and are available first come, first serve basis.

10am – 2pm | Rain Barrel Sale
Rain Barrel rebates are available starting at $35 per barrel (2 maximum) at SoCalWaterSmart.com. Preorder your discounted rain barrels for $65.00 + tax in advance for pick up at Descanso Gardens. Go to RainBarrelsIntl.com – click on EVENTS tab and select “Descanso Gardens. Rain Barrels will also be sold at the Descanso Gardens program for the future sale at Foothill Municipal Water District on October 1, 2017.

10am – 2pm | Water Agency Info Booths
Representatives from Burbank Water & Power, Glendale Water & Power, Pasadena Water & Power, City of South Pasadena, Crescenta Valley Water District, and Foothill Municipal Water District will be on hand to answer questions about wise water use.

Find out all about native plants, the wildlife they attract, the care they need, and how they can benefit your garden.

Kishin Daiko drummers perform heart-pounding feats of percussion.

Mark your calendars for an “Enchanted” evening with the Man in Red! The dinner includes a sumptuous buffet, fun activities for the youngsters, and entry to Descanso Gardens’ light show, Enchanted: Forest of Light! Tickets are $100 for adults and $65 for children over three. Registration link to come, reservation deadline is December 4.

Our Patina Dinner with Santa at 5pm runs on Friday and Saturday, December 8 & 9 and 15 & 16.
