TOMATOMANIA! Preview @ Descanso Gardens

The popular TOMATOMANIA! tomato plant sale returns to Descanso, and it kicks off with a pre-sale event for our Sponsoring, Sustaining, and Center Circle Associates members. Guests will enjoy tomato-inspired light bites and a Bloody Mary bar, learn about the best tomatoes to grow this season — and get first pick of the plant sale!

Select from hundreds of healthy seedlings, including heirloom varieties, old favorites and unusual offerings.

Tomatoblasts | 11am, 1pm, 2pm
Get quick tips from experts on growing great tomatoes at these 10 minute talks.

Tomato Cooking Demo | Noon
A Patina chef will prepare dishes featuring the versatile and delicious tomato.

Tomato Exploration and Investigation | 10am – 2pm
Check out our fun, hands-on, tomato-themed activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Patina’s Tomato Faves | 10am – 4pm
Purchase delicious dishes and drinks featuring tomatoes– including a bloody mary bar.

Celebrate spring with programs focusing on flowers, plants for your garden, and earth friendly Bling!

Earth Day & Botanic Bling also runs on Sunday, April 23.

Mt. Sac Plant Sale | 9am – 4pm
Students from the Mount San Antonio College horticulture program will sell a variety of potted plants to make your home garden zing this spring.

Botanic Bling | 9am – 4pm
Botanic Bling, a trunk show of unique accessories, returns with an Earth Day flavor – just in time for Mother’s Day. Free to members.

California Wildflower Display | 9am – 5pm
This floral installation will give you a close up view of the many beautiful native California blooms you can find at Descanso.

DIY Insect Home | 10am – 2pm
Using a mix of recycled and natural materials, build a home to attract garden-friendly insects to your yard.

Family Gardening Day in the Harvest Garden | 10am – 2pm
Come try your hand at gardening activities for the whole family. No experience necessary. Garden staff will be on hand to answer gardening questions.

Native Garden Walk | 11am
Join Native Garden Horticulturist Layla Valenzuela for a walk exploring native plants and pollinators.

Patina | 10am – 4pm
Fresh from the Garden Menu featuring grill favorites, salads and a smoothie bar.

End of Summer Festival @ Descanso Gardens

The gardens stay open extra late for this end of summer celebration.  Grab a cold drink and relax to the tunes of the The Flashdance DJswander through the gardens to the sounds of live music. Enjoy the sunset, then end the night with some stargazing in the Oak Woodland. Bring your own flashlight!
