Members Capture Essence of Descanso in Photos

julia chiang 36265 3Author Eudora Welty said "A snapshot captures a moment from running away."

We asked our members to share their moments in the Gardens in a summer photography contest. Thirty-seven members participated. Descanso staff judged the entries to find the winner.

Julia Chiang's brilliant image of a bright orange “flame skimmer” dragonfly was the hands-down first place winner. The Montrose resident captured the summery image on her point-and-shoot digital camera.

Pam Cornwell of Los Angeles took first place for her iconic shot of the Japanese Garden.

Second-place finisher Suzan Tintorri of Glendale discovered some interesting textures buried in the Oak Forest.

Gerry Gumser of Orange captured third place with his image of bright blue love-in-a-mist (Nigella damascena).

Congratulations to all who participated!
