Member FAQs

How many guests can I bring with me when I visit?

Each membership level allows for a different total number of individuals to enter the garden. A named cardholder must accompany guests.

Here are some examples:

If you have a Family level membership then a total of 2 adults and 4 children can enter the gardens. Only one of the adults needs to be a named cardholder.

If you and your spouse have a Dual membership and will be visiting together but would like to bring a guest, that guest is over the two-adult limit of a dual membership and will need to purchase a ticket.

How do I update my contact information or add someone to my account?

Send us an email at or call 818.952.4390. Please include your new contact information. When adding someone to your account, make sure to send us their name and all their contact information in the email.

How do I check the status of my membership?

The expiration date is on your digital membership card and your welcome email. You can also contact us at or 818.952.4390.

Do I need to create an online account to use my member discount?

Yes, you need to create an online account before making any online purchases, the system does not automatically create an account when you join.

Can I upgrade my membership before it expires?

Yes, you can stop by the membership window, email, or call 818.952.4390 with your request.

How do I receive free reciprocal admission at other AHS gardens?

We participate in the American Horticultural Society’s (AHS’s) Reciprocal Admissions Program. Your Descanso Gardens membership card entitles you to free admission and other perks at 345+ gardens throughout North America. View the list of gardens.

Always contact the garden you plan to visit for more information and to make reservations. Many gardens adhere to the 90-mile exclusion rule which means the garden you plan to visit must be further than 90 miles from Descanso. Visit the AHS website for more information.

How can I request a physical card?

Physical cards can be requested in person at the Visitor Center for a $5 fee. They do not expire and are valid as long as your membership is valid.

What’s the difference between the Family and Family & Friends levels?

Family membership provides free daytime admission for 2 named cardholders (adults) and up to 4 children.

The Family and Friends membership includes free daytime admission for 3 named cardholders (adults) and up to 6 children.

Family and Friends members also receive an invitation to a special member event, a 10% discount on daytime admission for guests, 2 complimentary guest passes to be used at any time within a year, and 4 complimentary train tickets.

How old do I need to be to qualify for the Senior Dual membership?

One of the named members must be 65 or older.
