Preserve garden beauty and harmony
- Smoking or vaping is not allowed anywhere on Descanso property (including parking lots).
- Please observe the Photography policy within the gardens.
- Outside flowers are not allowed within the gardens, except for approved rental clients.
- No animals are allowed into Descanso except service animals as defined by the ADA.
- Bikes, motorcycles, horses, and hunting are not allowed.
- Children must remain with an adult.
- Respect the Gardens by not picking flowers, leaves, or seeds, walking in flower beds, or climbing the trees.
- Do not feed or disturb the wildlife.
- Personal music devices are allowed with headsets only.
Look, learn, and enjoy, but please…
We encourage you to enjoy your time in the gardens but some activities are better enjoyed elsewhere.
While at Descanso, please do not
- Run, throw balls or toys, play games, or climb
- Sunbathe (shoes and shirts must be worn at all times)
- Bathe, wade, poke the fish, splash in water features
- Picnic, take food and beverages outside designated areas
- Set up chairs and blankets
- Fly model airplanes, drones, kites, or metallic balloons (Danger, high-voltage wires are overhead!)

We want artists and photographers to enjoy and capture Descanso’s natural beauty, but there are a few rules to be aware of if you want to take pictures at the gardens.

Equipment limitations for budding photographers
Even amateur photographers are limited in the equipment they may bring into Descanso Gardens. See which photo equipment is allowed and what you should leave at home.
Pro photographers must arrange access
If you’re a professional photographer, arrange access to the gardens by contacting the Special Events Department at 818.949.4291 or photography@descansogardens.org.

Inappropriate behavior won’t be tolerated
Descanso does not allow inappropriate behavior in the gardens, including but not limited to yelling, violence, intimidation, threats, harassment, aggression, swearing, damage, abuse, or sexual harassment. Anyone who exhibits aggressive or inappropriate behaviors toward staff or other visitors will be expelled from the gardens.
