Photography 101 for Teens

See the beauty of Descanso Gardens through the lens! In this Photography 101 workshop series, teens will be introduced to essential and basic DSLR functions, how to control settings, consider composition and visual strategies, and gain knowledge of basic file organization and off-loading practices.

Students will engage in discussion, photo walks through the garden, and group peer review, exploring both technical and aesthetic aspects of photography. 

This 3-part class is led by Las Fotos Project Teaching Artist Danielle Del Rosario and Teaching Artist Assistant Yahaira Guerrero. This class is intended for participants aged 13-19. 

Necessary equipment will be provided, but students are invited to bring a personal digital camera, if they desire.

Meets on July 16, 23, and 30. $100 members, $125 non-members. Registration opens to members on June 5 at 10am and to non-members on June 10 at 10am.

Please note that all participants ages 15 and under must be accompanied by a supervising adult at all times. Supervising adults are not required to purchase an additional ticket.

About Danielle Del Rosario

Born in the Philippines and raised in East Hollywood, photographer and arts educator Danielle Del Rosario pours her love for storytelling and the photographic medium in nearly everything she does. Heavily inspired by childhood memories, family, and vivid dreams, her work mostly focuses on documentation and re-imagining.

About Yahaira Guerrero

Yahaira Guerrero is a first-generation artist, born and raised in North East Los Angeles who takes inspiration from her community, culture, friends, and family when creating art through photo form. Yahaira’s recent projects have been based on the storytelling of the intersectionality of social issues within her community and the deconstruction of identity.
