Descanso After Dark

Don’t miss Descanso After Dark to see how the garden comes alive at night!
Join Jason “Journeyman” Wise or bat expert Dr. Joseph Curti on a night hike to learn about nocturnal animals. Stargaze with the Old Town Sidewalk Astronomers.
Let bug expert Dr. Megan Barkdull introduce you to a wide array of insects. Dance the night away at the silent disco.
Guests are encouraged to bring flashlights, a sense of curiosity, a spirit of adventure, and warm clothing.

Silent Disco with The Flashdance DJs
- Get down without making a sound! Sway to your own beat as The Flashdance DJs spin tunes only audible through special headsets.

Night Hikes with Jason “Journeyman” Wise
- Explore Descanso using your night vision with environmental educator Jason Wise (aka @jasonjourneyman). We’ll let our eyes adjust and then use all our senses to look for nocturnal animals, including bats, owls, and toads.

Creepy Crawler Bug Tent with Dr. Megan Barkdull
- Join Dr. Megan Barkdull from the Natural History Museum to observe and identify some of Descanso’s nocturnal insect friends.
- 7-9pm
Bat Walk with Dr. Joseph Curti
- Join Dr. Joseph Curti for a nighttime walk to find and identify some of Descanso’s local bats. Afterwards, come talk with Dr. Joseph Curti in the Ancient Forest to learn more about Descanso’s local bat population and how they impact the environment.
- Tour: 7-8pm
Stargazing with Old Town Sidewalk Astronomers and Carnegie Science
- Observe the night sky with some help from astronomers and telescopes.
